Community Family Care celebrated its first anniversary with a tea party at our offices in Staunton, Gloucestershire.
Community Family Care was set up a year ago after our sister charity, Community Foster Care, identified a need for additional services for families in Gloucestershire.
The Family Care team provides a range of services for families. These include bespoke family support, working alongside the family as a whole to help affect positive change, as well as running evidence based parenting groups using the world-renowned Triple P programme. The charity also offers therapeutic life story work for children and has a successful peer mentoring programme for young people aged 6-16.
Community Family Care Co-ordinator Sasha Brown said the achievements of the past year have been enormous.
“There is a huge need for parents to be able to access appropriate support when they need it and not feel isolated. Early intervention is key – it’s the difference between a family being in crisis and a family feeling they are in control,” she said.
“We’re about providing parents with the skills to feel confident in their parenting abilities and enabling them to build on their strengths.
“We are extremely proud of the services we’ve developed so far and the positive response we have had from referrers and service users.”
She thanked all those who had made the first year so successful. “We couldn’t have done it without a lot of hard work from our Family Support Worker, Rae Edwards, and sessional family support workers and peer mentors,” she added.
Community Family Care takes referrals from agencies, including local authorities and schools, and from families themselves.
